Unfit to fly certificate
For when a doctor finds you too unwell to board a flight on your planned dates. Choose the Unfit to Travel option.
People in Thailand who are too unwell to take a booked flight can request an unfit to fly certificate in Thailand online through DrCertificate.
An independent certified doctor reviews every request after a digital chat consultation. The doctor decides whether a certificate is appropriate, so issue is never automatic.
Start with the short online form.
Anyone in Thailand aged 16 or over can request an unfit to fly certificate online through DrCertificate. You fill in the online form, pick the Unfit to Travel option, pay through Stripe, and an independent certified doctor reviews your request by digital chat. Approved certificates arrive as a PDF by email. The service suits non emergency situations only.
Travellers, workers and students in Thailand need an unfit to fly certificate when illness stops them from taking a booked flight. The certificate gives an airline, employer or school a written medical opinion that the person should not fly on the dates stated.
Thailand moves a lot of people by air.
Visitors due to leave from Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang can fall ill days before departure, from food poisoning, a high fever or a holiday injury. Expat workers flying home on leave face the same problem. University students returning for a new term do too. The rainy season, which runs roughly from May to October, brings more colds, flu and mosquito borne illness including dengue.
Busy travel periods around Songkran in April add pressure, because changing a flight at short notice costs money.
An online request fits these moments. You can apply from a hotel room or apartment instead of travelling to a clinic while sick, and the receiving organisation decides whether to accept the certificate.
Pick the form option that matches your situation
Choose the Unfit to Travel option on the form if illness means you should not fly. The application form lists four options: Sick Leave, Unfit to Travel, Work From Home and Medical Fitness Certificate. Every certificate DrCertificate offers sits under one of them.
For when a doctor finds you too unwell to board a flight on your planned dates. Choose the Unfit to Travel option.
For an airline that wants a note saying you are well enough to travel. Choose the Medical Fitness Certificate option.
For time off work or university because of illness. The Sick Leave option also covers a general medical certificate.
For when you can still work but should stay home. Choose the Work From Home option.
For a new job, a course or a sports event that asks for proof of good health. Choose the Medical Fitness Certificate option.
You get an unfit to fly certificate online in Thailand in four steps, all from your phone or computer. There are no video calls and no clinic visits at any stage.

Open the form, choose the Unfit to Travel option, and enter your details, symptoms and flight dates.
Pay the fee at the Stripe checkout. Your request then goes to a doctor.
An independent certified doctor reviews your answers in a digital chat and may ask follow-up questions.
If the doctor approves, the certificate arrives by email as a PDF. If the doctor declines, no certificate is issued.

Have your personal details, a working email address and your flight information ready before you start. Missing or mismatched details are the usual cause of delay.
Your full name and ID number written just as they appear on your passport or ID card, plus an email address you can open.
Why you cannot fly, when symptoms began, and the flight dates the certificate should cover.
Any form, template or wording your airline, employer or school asked for.
A clear account of your symptoms and any existing medical records that relate to them.
The doctor reads everything you submitted and decides, on their own judgement, whether an unfit to fly certificate is appropriate. Paying for the review does not guarantee a certificate.
The doctor looks at your symptoms, when they started, your travel dates and whether your details agree with each other. Your name and ID should match. Your account of the illness should make sense alongside the dates you ask for. If anything is unclear, the doctor may send follow up questions in the chat, and quick answers keep your request moving.
DrCertificate is a platform that connects you with independent doctors. DrCertificate does not diagnose, treat or prescribe.
A certificate is issued only when the doctor finds it appropriate.
If the doctor cannot issue your certificate, the payment is not refunded, and the best next step is an in person visit to a clinic or hospital in Thailand. Doctors decline when the name and ID do not match, or when the symptoms and details shared are inconsistent.
Refunds apply only to a verified technical fault reported within 24 hours.

The price of an unfit to fly certificate depends on your country, and the Thailand price is shown at checkout before you pay. The fee covers the doctor's review and, if approved, the PDF certificate by email.
Payment goes through Stripe. The fee is non refundable, including when the doctor declines.

Turnaround is about 30 minutes. Missing details, a name that does not match your ID, or follow up questions in the chat can slow things down.
Doctor hours are published in Indian Standard Time, which runs 1.5 hours behind Thailand. For fitness cases, the hours work out to 10:30 am to 10:30 pm Thai time from Monday to Saturday, and 11:30 am to 9:30 pm on Sunday.
Acceptance is decided by the employer, school or airline receiving the certificate, so ask them before you apply. DrCertificate cannot promise that any organisation will take an online note.
Airlines set their own rules, and unfit to fly needs differ from fit to fly needs. Thai Airways uses a medical information form, known as a MEDIF, which asks the physician attending the passenger to answer every question in the medical section and provides for that physician's signature.
The Thai Airways Aero Medical Center then gives medical authorisation for air travel depending on the documentation from the attending physician. If your airline sends a form like this, ask whether a doctor from an online service can complete it.
Work has its own rules. Thailand's Labour Protection Act lets an employer ask for a medical certificate from a first class modern medicine practitioner or an official hospital when sick leave lasts three working days or more. Check with your employer if your absence is that long.
An online certificate is not right for emergencies. If you have chest pain, trouble breathing, heavy bleeding or a sudden collapse, call 1669, Thailand's medical emergency number, or go to the nearest hospital.
The certificate is not for legal purposes, insurance claims or submission in India. Applicants must be 16 or older.
Visit a clinic or hospital in person if your symptoms are severe or getting worse, if you need tests or treatment, or if your airline wants a physician who examined you face to face.
DrCertificate tells you what it can and cannot do before you pay.
The reasons below come from how the platform runs every day.
All doctors on the platform are registered with a medical council and hold an MBBS, MD or MS.
Fit to fly, sports fitness and fit to work certificates use the Medical Fitness Certificate option. A general medical certificate uses the Sick Leave option.
Doctors decline about 2% of requests, when the name and ID do not match or the details shared are inconsistent.
In most South East Asian countries, sick leave and work from home notes go up to 7 days for generic symptoms, and fitness notes are generally valid for 30 days.
Customers are encouraged to confirm the place of submission accepts online medical notes before choosing the service.
No. DrCertificate has no video or in person consultations. An independent certified doctor reviews your online form and talks with you through a digital chat. If your condition needs a physical examination, the doctor may decline, and a clinic or hospital in Thailand is the better choice.
The doctor decides which dates a certificate can cover, based on what you share. DrCertificate cannot promise a backdated certificate. Give honest dates for when symptoms began and when your flight was due, because inconsistent details are a common reason doctors decline requests.
Your form details go to the reviewing doctor so the doctor can assess your request and prepare a certificate if approved. The approved PDF is sent to the email address you provide. For questions about how your data is stored or handled, write to care@drcertificate.com.
Yes, if you are in Thailand, aged 16 or over and the situation is not an emergency. Apply as soon as you know you cannot fly, include your flight details, and ask your airline whether it accepts an online certificate or needs its own medical form.
Thai Airways' conditions of carriage say it may extend a ticket's validity until a passenger is fit to travel when illness stops them flying after the trip has started, and the illness must be attested by a medical certificate. Whether an online certificate qualifies is the airline's decision.
A certificate cannot be corrected once issued unless the mistake came from the medical team. Check your name, ID details, dates and email address before you submit, because errors entered on the form carry through to the final certificate.
