What is a medical certificate for sinusitis?

A medical certificate for sinusitis is a document from a certified doctor that records whether you need time off or should work from home because of sinus symptoms. The doctor issues it only after reviewing your request in a digital chat consultation.

DrCertificate does not diagnose, treat or prescribe. The certificate states the doctor's decision about rest or work arrangements. A prescription or treatment plan is not part of it.

For sinusitis, the sick leave option is the usual choice when you need days away from work or classes. The work from home option suits people who feel able to work but should stay home while blocked sinuses and facial pain settle.

Most people show the certificate to an employer, a university or a school.

Which kinds of sinusitis can a doctor consider online?

A doctor on DrCertificate can consider common, non emergency forms of sinusitis, most often acute sinusitis that follows a cold or flu. The doctor reads what you share in the chat and decides whether a certificate fits your situation.

The NHS says sinusitis usually clears up on its own within 4 weeks.

The doctor decides the period of rest, if any, after the consultation. No set number of days is promised for any form of sinusitis.

Not every case suits a chat. Sinusitis with swelling around the eyes, changes in vision or a severe headache needs in person care, and the doctor may decline those requests.

  • Acute sinusitis after a cold

Acute sinusitis brings a blocked nose and pain around the cheeks or forehead after a cold. Acute sinusitis usually settles within 4 weeks.

  • A flare of longer lasting sinusitis

Sinus symptoms that last 12 weeks or longer are usually called chronic sinusitis. A flare can make work hard for a short spell, and a doctor can consider a request for that period.

  • Allergy related sinus congestion

Hay fever and other allergies can block the sinuses and cause pressure headaches. A doctor can weigh how far the symptoms affect your work or study.

What should you tell the doctor about your sinusitis?

  • Describe your sinusitis symptoms, when they began, how severe they feel and the leave period you are requesting. Clear details give the doctor what they need to decide.

  • Start with the typical signs. Mention a blocked or runny nose and any pain or pressure around your cheeks, eyes or forehead. Say whether your sense of smell has dropped. Note a fever, a headache or toothache if you have them. Give the date your symptoms began and whether they are getting better or worse.

  • If you already have a clinic note, a swab result or a scan report, mention it in the form.

Finish by stating the dates you want covered.

When is sinusitis not suitable for an online certificate?

Sinusitis is not suitable for an online certificate when you are very unwell, when painkillers do not help or your symptoms get worse, or when you have a weakened immune system. The NHS advises an urgent doctor appointment in those situations.

Seek emergency care straight away for swelling or redness around the eyes or any change in your vision. A severe headache, a stiff neck or confusion also needs urgent help.

DrCertificate is only for suitable non emergency situations. The platform does not diagnose, treat or prescribe, and the doctor may decline a request that is not right for a chat consultation.

Which certificate should you choose for sinusitis?

Choose the sick leave option for most sinusitis requests, or the work from home option if you can still work from home.

In most South East Asian countries, sick leave and work from home notes go up to 7 days for generic symptoms, and fitness notes are generally valid for 30 days.

What happens if the doctor does not issue a certificate for sinusitis?

If the doctor does not issue a certificate for sinusitis, your payment is not refunded, because issuing is the doctor's independent decision. The fee pays for the review, whatever the outcome.

Doctors decline when details are wrong, for example when the name and ID do not match. Inconsistent symptoms and details are another reason. Requests that describe warning signs belong with in person care instead.

Once issued, a certificate cannot be corrected unless the fault came from the medical team.
