What is a medical certificate for dizziness?
A medical certificate for dizziness is a note from a certified doctor confirming that you consulted them about dizziness and, where the doctor agrees, that you need time off or a change to how you work. The note records the dates the doctor approves.
The certificate is not a diagnosis. DrCertificate does not diagnose, treat or prescribe, and the note does not replace care from your own doctor.
For dizziness, the sick leave or work from home option usually applies. Most people show the certificate to an employer, a university or a school that needs proof of a short absence.
Which kinds of dizziness can a doctor consider online?
A doctor on DrCertificate can consider common, short lived dizziness, including lightheadedness, mild vertigo and unsteadiness during a passing illness. The NHS says dizziness usually goes away on its own.
The doctor decides whether you need rest and for how long. That decision rests on what you share in the consultation, including how strong the dizziness is and how long it has lasted. No set number of days is promised. A desk worker with mild lightheadedness might be offered a work from home note, while someone whose vertigo makes standing hard might be given sick leave. The doctor can also decline.
Not every case suits a chat.
Dizziness with fainting, a fall or new nerve symptoms needs a doctor who can examine you in person.
Lightheadedness
A faint or woozy feeling, often linked to dehydration, skipped meals, heat or standing up too fast.
Vertigo
A spinning sensation, commonly from an inner ear problem, that can make walking or screen work hard.
Unsteadiness
Feeling off balance, sometimes during or after a cold, flu or ear infection.
Motion related dizziness
Nausea and imbalance after travel by car, boat or plane.
What should you tell the doctor about your dizziness?
Tell the doctor what your dizziness feels like, when it began and how it affects your work or study. Clear, honest details give the doctor what they need to decide.
Keep your answers short and factual.
The feeling
Spinning, faint, off balance or a mix, plus nausea, headache or ringing in the ears.
Onset and duration
The date it started and whether it comes in episodes or stays constant.
Severity
Whether you can stand, walk, commute or look at a screen.
Reports you have
Blood pressure readings or a note from a recent clinic visit, if you have them.
Leave requested
The dates you are asking the doctor to cover.
When is dizziness not suitable for an online certificate?
Dizziness is not suitable for an online certificate when it comes with signs of a medical emergency. MedlinePlus advises calling your local emergency number or going to an emergency room if you are dizzy and have any of the signs listed here.
DrCertificate does not diagnose, treat or prescribe. The service is only for suitable non emergency situations.
A doctor may decline any request that is not safe to handle by chat.
- Head injury or seizures Dizziness after a blow to the head, or with a seizure.
- Chest pain or irregular heart rate Pain in the chest, or a heartbeat that feels uneven.
- Shortness of breath Trouble breathing alongside the dizziness.
- Weakness or loss of movement Weakness, or being unable to move an arm or leg.
- Change in vision or speech Blurred or lost vision, or slurred or confused speech.
Which certificate should you choose for dizziness?
For most dizziness, choose the Sick Leave option if you cannot work or study, or Work From Home if you can manage desk tasks. In most South East Asian countries, sick leave and work from home notes go up to 7 days for generic symptoms.
| Form option | When it suits dizziness | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Sick Leave, for university or work | Dizziness keeps you from working or attending classes for a short period | Also used for a general medical certificate |
| Work From Home | You can do desk work but commuting or being on site feels unsafe | Up to 7 days for generic symptoms in most countries served |
| Unfit to Travel | Vertigo or imbalance makes a planned trip or flight unwise | The doctor decides whether travel should wait |
| Medical Fitness Certificate | An employer, school or sports club asks for a fitness note | Covers fit to work, fit to fly and sports fitness, generally valid for 30 days |

What happens if the doctor does not issue a certificate for dizziness?
If the doctor does not issue a certificate for dizziness, the payment is not refunded, because issuing is the doctor's independent decision. Doctors decline about 2% of requests.
The usual reasons are details that do not match, like a name and ID that differ, or symptoms that are inconsistent with the rest of the form. A dizziness case that needs a physical examination can be declined too.
A refund is given only for a verified technical fault reported within 24 hours. A certificate cannot be corrected once issued unless the fault is from the medical team.

Questions about medical certificates for dizziness
Yes. You can mention reports you already have in the online form, including blood pressure readings or a note from a recent clinic visit. The doctor considers them alongside your symptoms. Reports are not required for common dizziness, so you can still apply without them.
The doctor decides the leave period based on your consultation. In most South East Asian countries, sick leave and work from home notes go up to 7 days for generic symptoms. The NHS says dizziness usually goes away on its own, so a short period is common, though no number of days is promised.
Acceptance is decided by your employer or institution, not by DrCertificate. All doctors on the platform are registered with a medical council. Check with your HR team or university that online medical notes are accepted before you apply, since payments are non refundable.
No. DrCertificate works only through a digital chat consultation, with no video or in person appointments. If your dizziness needs a physical examination, the doctor may decline the request, and you should visit a clinic or hospital near you instead.
Seek in person care straight away if your dizziness gets worse or comes with chest pain, weakness or a change in vision or speech. Call your local emergency number for those signs. An online certificate is not a substitute for urgent care, and DrCertificate does not treat or prescribe.
Approved certificates usually arrive by email as a PDF in about 30 minutes. Fitness cases are reviewed from 9 am to 9 pm IST Monday to Saturday and 10 am to 8 pm IST on Sunday. Check your spam folder if the email has not reached your inbox.
