Who needs a medical certificate in Brunei?

Workers, students and travellers are the people in Brunei who most often need a medical certificate. Employers ask for proof of fitness when hiring, students at schools and Universiti Brunei Darussalam get asked for health notes, and travellers sometimes need a note around a flight.

Hiring is a common trigger. Section 16 of Brunei's Employment Order 2009 requires every employee entering a contract of service to be medically examined by a medical practitioner at the employer's expense, with the certificate obtained before the contract is signed.

Foreign workers follow a separate route. The Ministry of Health's Foreign Worker Health Screening programme issues a medical fitness for employment certificate, which the Department of Immigration and National Registration requires before it issues an Employment Pass. New foreign workers must also complete a medical examination in their home country before arriving, including blood tests for communicable diseases and a chest x-ray.

An online consultation cannot run blood tests or take an x-ray.

DrCertificate's online request fits other moments. Picture a student asked for a good health note before a sports day, an office worker in Bandar Seri Begawan who catches a fever during heavy tropical rain, or a visitor at Brunei International Airport who feels too unwell to fly. Whether an organisation accepts the note is up to that organisation.

Which medical certificate do you need in Brunei?

Medical fitness certificate

For employee fitness, student fitness and good health notes. Choose Medical Fitness Certificate on the form.

Sports fitness certificate

What should you have ready before you apply?

Have your personal details, a working email address and the dates you need covered ready before you apply. Missing details slow the review down.

Your name must match your ID as written on it, or the doctor may decline the request.

  • Personal details and email

Full name and ID details that match, plus an email address you check.

  • Reason and dates

Why you need the certificate and the dates it should cover.

  • Requested wording

Any form or wording your employer, school or airline asked for.

  • Symptoms and records

When symptoms started and any existing records that support the request.

What happens when the doctor reviews your request?

The doctor reads the information you submitted and decides independently whether a certificate is appropriate. Paying for the review does not guarantee a certificate.

DrCertificate is a platform that connects you with the doctor. DrCertificate does not diagnose, treat or prescribe.

The doctor checks that your name and ID details match, that your symptoms or reason fit the dates you asked for, and that the request suits an online assessment. Questions may follow in the chat. A doctor might ask when a symptom began, whether you have any existing conditions, or what the receiving organisation needs from the note. Consistent answers make the decision easier.

The certificate is issued only if the doctor finds it appropriate.

What if the doctor cannot issue your certificate?

If the doctor declines, you do not receive a certificate and the payment is not refunded. Doctors decline when details are wrong, for example a name that does not match the ID, or when the symptoms and details shared are inconsistent.

Payments are non refundable. The one exception is a verified technical fault reported within 24 hours.

If an online note does not fit your situation, visit a local clinic or hospital in Brunei in person. For questions, email care@drcertificate.com.

What does an online medical certificate cost in Brunei?

The price for Brunei is shown on the form before you pay through Stripe. Fees depend on the country.

The fee covers the doctor's review of your request and, if approved, the PDF certificate by email. The fee is non refundable, including when the doctor declines.

How quickly can you get an online fitness certificate in Brunei?

A typical request takes about 30 minutes. Missing details, a name that does not match the ID, or slow replies to follow up questions can stretch that.

Doctors handle fitness cases from 9 am to 9 pm IST, Monday to Saturday and 10 am to 8 pm IST on Sunday. Brunei runs two and a half hours ahead of IST.

A request sent outside those hours waits for the next window.

DayHours in ISTHours in Brunei time
Monday to Saturday9 am to 9 pm11:30 am to 11:30 pm
Sunday10 am to 8 pm12:30 pm to 10:30 pm

Will your employer, school or airline in Brunei accept it?

The employer, school, airline or sports body receiving the certificate decides whether to accept it, so check with them before you apply. DrCertificate encourages every customer to confirm that the place of submission accepts online medical notes.

Official rules shape hiring in Brunei. The Employment Order 2009 requires a medical examination by a medical practitioner before a contract of service is signed, paid for by the employer. Foreign workers applying for an Employment Pass need the Ministry of Health's medical fitness for employment certificate from its Foreign Worker Health Screening programme. An online certificate does not replace either requirement.

Airlines set their own rules. Fit to fly and unfit to fly needs differ from one airline to the next, and an airline may want its own form.

Ask first. A short message now can save a wasted fee.

When is an online certificate not right for you in Brunei?

An online certificate is not right for emergencies, legal matters, insurance claims or anyone under 16. In an emergency in Brunei, call 991 for an ambulance or go to the nearest hospital emergency department.

DrCertificate certificates are not for legal purposes, must not be used for insurance and are not for submission in India.

Visit a clinic or hospital in person when you need a physical examination, blood tests or an x-ray, when symptoms are severe or getting worse, or when the requesting body insists on an in person check. The medical examination new foreign workers complete before arriving in Brunei is one example.

Who issues your medical certificate?

  • Certified doctors

Each request goes to a doctor with an MBBS, MD or MS qualification. All doctors on the platform are registered medical council doctors.

  • The doctor decides
