Sick leave certificate
For time off work or university when you are too unwell to attend. Choose Medical Certificate, Sick Leave on the form. A general medical certificate uses this same option.
People in Laos can request an online sick leave certificate through DrCertificate without leaving home. DrCertificate is an online platform that connects you with independent certified doctors, and one of them reviews each request after a digital chat consultation.
Issue is never automatic.
The doctor decides whether a certificate is appropriate based on what you share. Start the online form, choose your certificate and pay through Stripe. Approved certificates arrive by email as a PDF.
Yes. Anyone in Laos aged 16 or over can request a sick leave or other medical certificate online through DrCertificate. You fill in an online form, pay through Stripe, and an independent certified doctor reviews your request by digital chat. If the doctor approves it, the certificate arrives as a PDF by email. The service suits non emergency situations only.
Office workers, factory staff, students and travellers are the groups in Laos who commonly need a medical certificate. Each group faces a different deadline, from an HR request to a missed exam to a flight that will not wait.
The rainy season runs roughly from May to October and brings dengue, colds and stomach bugs to Vientiane, Pakse and the river towns. A worker who wakes with a fever is in no state to queue at a clinic just for a note. Students at the National University of Laos and other colleges may need proof of illness to explain an absence or a missed test.
Visitors face a different problem.
A traveller who falls ill in Luang Prabang or Vang Vieng before a flight out of Wattay International Airport may want a doctor's view on whether flying is wise. An online request lets each of these people ask a doctor from wherever they are. Whether the employer, school or airline accepts the result is a separate question, covered further down this page.
Four options on the DrCertificate form
The right certificate depends on what your employer, school or airline asked for. The DrCertificate form has four options, and each certificate below maps to one of them.
For time off work or university when you are too unwell to attend. Choose Medical Certificate, Sick Leave on the form. A general medical certificate uses this same option.
For days when you can still work but a doctor agrees you should stay home, for example with a contagious cough. Choose Medical Certificate, Work From Home on the form.
For a new job, a course admission or a good health note. Sports fitness, fit to fly and fit to work requests also use the Medical Fitness Certificate option.
For when a doctor judges that illness means you should not travel. Choose Medical Certificate, Unfit to Travel on the form.
You get an online sick leave certificate in Laos by completing the DrCertificate form, paying through Stripe and waiting for a doctor's decision by email. The whole exchange happens in writing.
There are no video or in person consultations.

Enter your details, choose the certificate type, and describe your symptoms and the dates you need covered.
Mag-apply naPay the fee shown at checkout. Payment is non refundable.
An independent certified doctor reviews your request through a digital chat and may ask follow-up questions.

Have your personal details, a working email address and the dates you need covered before you open the form. Five minutes of preparation saves a slow back and forth with the doctor.
Your full name and ID details, which must match each other, plus an email address you can check right away.
Why you need the certificate and the first and last day it should cover.
Any form, format or wording your employer, school or airline asked for.
When symptoms started, how they affect you, and any existing prescriptions or reports.
The doctor reads your symptoms, dates and stated reason, then decides independently whether a certificate is appropriate. Paying the fee does not guarantee a certificate.
The doctor checks that your name and ID match and that the symptoms you describe fit the leave or fitness note you asked for. If something is unclear, the doctor may ask follow up questions in the chat, and quick, honest answers help the review move along.
Exaggerating symptoms to get more days often backfires, because inconsistent details are a common reason for a decline. Write what happened, in plain words.
DrCertificate does not diagnose, treat or prescribe.
The platform connects you with the doctor, and the doctor writes the certificate only when the doctor finds it appropriate. In most South East Asian countries, sick leave and work from home notes go up to 7 days for generic symptoms, and fitness notes are generally valid for 30 days.
If the doctor cannot issue your certificate, the request is declined and the fee is not refunded. Doctors decline about 2% of requests when the name and ID do not match or when the symptoms and details shared are inconsistent.
A decline does not mean you are well. It means an online review was not enough.
Visit a clinic or hospital in Laos in person if you still need a certificate. For a technical fault, email care@drcertificate.com within 24 hours, because a verified technical fault is the one case where a refund applies.

A DrCertificate request from Laos takes about 30 minutes to reach a decision. Missing details, a name that does not match the ID, or follow-up questions in the chat add time, so fill the form carefully and stay near your phone.
Laos runs 90 minutes ahead of India Standard Time. Fitness cases are handled from 9 am to 9 pm IST Monday to Saturday, which is 10:30 am to 10:30 pm in Laos, and from 10 am to 8 pm IST on Sunday, which is 11:30 am to 9:30 pm in Laos.
Your employer, school or airline in Laos decides whether to accept an online certificate, so ask them before you apply. All doctors on the platform are registered with a medical council, but each organisation sets its own rules on online notes.
Lao law does link paid sick leave to a medical certificate. Article 56 of the Labor Law, Law No. 43/NA, gives workers paid monthly up to 30 days of sick leave a year on full pay when they present a medical certificate. Workers paid by the day, hour or unit, or on contracts for a set piece of work, are paid during sick leave only after working more than 90 days.
Article 129 covers longer absences. An employee with medical certification who takes more than one month of consecutive leave for an illness or accident not caused by work receives salary from the employer for one month, or thirty days, each year.
The law does not say whether an online note qualifies.
Fit to fly and unfit to fly rules differ by airline. Check with yours first.
| Lao Labor Law rule | Who it covers | What it says |
|---|---|---|
| Article 56 | Workers paid monthly | Up to 30 days of sick leave a year on full pay with a medical certificate |
| Article 56 | Workers paid by day, hour, unit or for a set piece of work | Paid during sick leave only after more than 90 days of work |
| Article 129 | Employees on more than one month of consecutive leave for non work illness or accident | Salary from the employer for one month, or thirty days, per year with medical certification |
An online certificate is not right for you in Laos if you face an emergency, need a document for legal or insurance use, or are under 16. In an emergency, call 1195 for an ambulance or go straight to the nearest hospital.
DrCertificate certificates are not for legal purposes, insurance claims or submission in India.
Choose an in person visit at a local clinic or hospital when symptoms are severe or getting worse, when you need tests or treatment, or when you need leave longer than about a week. Chest pain, trouble breathing and a high fever that will not come down all need a doctor in the room, not a chat window.
DrCertificate is an online platform operated by Health Venture OU. It connects people in Laos and nine other South East Asian countries with independent certified doctors.
All doctors on the platform are registered with a medical council and hold MBBS, MD or MS degrees.
Sports fitness, fit to fly and fit to work certificates use the Medical Fitness Certificate option. A general medical certificate uses the Sick Leave option.
In most South East Asian countries, sick leave and work from home notes go up to 7 days for generic symptoms. Fitness notes are generally valid for 30 days.
Doctors decline about 2% of requests, when the name and ID do not match or the details shared are inconsistent.
Customers are encouraged to confirm that the place of submission accepts online medical notes before choosing the service.
No. DrCertificate does not offer video or in person consultations. An independent certified doctor reviews your online form and may ask follow-up questions through a digital chat. If the doctor feels your situation needs a physical examination, visit a clinic or hospital in Laos instead of relying on an online note.
The doctor decides whether a certificate can cover past dates. Enter the real dates you were unwell and describe your symptoms accurately. The doctor weighs that information and may issue a certificate for the dates that make medical sense, or may decline if the details do not fit together.
Your form details go to the doctor reviewing your request so the doctor can decide on the certificate. Stripe processes your payment and card details. For questions about how your information is stored or used, email care@drcertificate.com before you apply and ask the support team directly.
Email care@drcertificate.com and include the name and email address you used on the form. Support can look into technical faults, which must be reported within 24 hours and verified for a refund to apply. Support cannot change a doctor's decision or correct a certificate unless the medical team made the error.
You can request one using the Unfit to Travel option on the form, and a doctor decides whether to issue it. Airlines set their own rules, so check with your airline before applying. If you become seriously unwell at the airport, get medical help there or call 1195.
Yes. The service is open to people in Laos aged 16 or over, including expatriate workers, students and tourists. Your name on the form must match your ID, because mismatched details lead to declines. The certificate is not for submission in India, legal purposes or insurance claims.
Start the online form if an online review fits your situation. An independent certified doctor decides whether to issue your certificate, and the fee is non refundable whatever the outcome. Questions first? Email care@drcertificate.com.
