Who needs a medical fitness certificate in the Philippines?

Workers, students and travellers are the three groups in the Philippines who most often need a medical certificate. A new job, a school enrolment or a flight can each come with a request for proof of health.

New hires in Makati, BGC or Cebu IT Park are often asked for a fit to work note before their start date. Students may need a good health certificate for enrolment or to join a school sports team.

Weather plays a part too.

The rainy season, roughly June to November, brings typhoons, flu and dengue worries, and plenty of people end up needing a day off and a note to go with it. Travellers passing through Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, Mactan Cebu International Airport or Francisco Bangoy International Airport in Davao sometimes need a fitness note before flying.

Others need proof that illness stopped them from boarding a booked flight. A clinic queue is hard to fit around a shift or a departure time, and an online request can be sent from home or a hotel room.

Whether the note is accepted is up to the employer, school or airline. Check with them first.

Which medical certificate do you need in the Philippines?

Four options appear on the DrCertificate form: Medical Fitness Certificate, Sick Leave, Unfit to Travel and Work From Home

Pick the option that matches what your employer, school, airline or sports body asked for. Some needs share one form option, as the cards show.

Medical fitness certificate

Proof of good health for a job, school enrolment or a general fitness check. Choose Medical Fitness Certificate on the form.

Sports fitness certificate

For a gym, team, race or league that wants a fitness note before you take part. Uses the Medical Fitness Certificate option.

Fit to fly and fit to work certificates

For an airline or employer that wants confirmation you are well enough to travel or start work. Also uses the Medical Fitness Certificate option.

Sick leave and general medical certificate

For time off work or university when you are unwell. A general medical certificate uses the Sick Leave option too.

Unfit to fly certificate

For when illness stops you from travelling on a booked date. Choose Unfit to Travel on the form.

Work from home certificate

For when you can still work but should stay home while unwell. Choose Work From Home on the form.

What should you have ready before you apply?

Have your personal details, dates and any requested wording ready before you open the form. A complete request is quicker for the doctor to review.

Make sure the name you enter matches your ID as written.

  • Personal details and email

Your full name as shown on your ID, your date of birth and an email address you can check right away.

  • Reason and dates

Why you need the certificate and the dates it should cover.

  • Requested form or wording

Any form, template or wording your employer, school, airline or sports body asked for.

  • Symptoms or records

A clear account of current symptoms, or existing medical records that support a fitness request.

What happens when the doctor reviews your request?

The doctor reads everything you submitted and decides independently whether a certificate is appropriate. Paying the fee buys a review, not a guaranteed certificate.

The doctor checks that your name and ID match, that the dates make sense and that the symptoms or fitness details you shared are consistent with each other.

The doctor may ask follow-up questions in the chat.

DrCertificate is a platform that connects you with independent doctors. The platform does not diagnose, treat or prescribe, and the review covers the certificate request alone. If what you describe calls for an examination or treatment, the doctor can decline, and a visit to a clinic becomes the better route.

A certificate is issued only when the doctor finds it appropriate based on what you shared. The decision rests with the doctor every time, and neither the fee nor the form can change that.

What if the doctor cannot issue your certificate?

If the doctor declines, you do not receive a certificate and the fee is not refunded. Doctors decline about 2% of requests, when the name and ID do not match or when the symptoms and details shared are inconsistent.

Payments are non refundable. The one exception is a verified technical fault reported within 24 hours.

Your next step is a local clinic or hospital, where a doctor can examine you in person and issue a note if appropriate. For help with a request, email care@drcertificate.com.

How quickly can you get a medical certificate in the Philippines?

Turnaround for a DrCertificate request is about 30 minutes. Missing details, a name that does not match your ID or follow up questions from the doctor can add time.

Fitness cases are reviewed during set hours in India time, which runs two and a half hours behind the Philippines. A request sent outside those hours waits for the next review window.

Will your employer, school or airline in the Philippines accept it?

Acceptance is decided by the organisation receiving the certificate, not by DrCertificate or the doctor. Ask your employer, school, airline or sports body whether it takes online medical notes before you apply.

Company policy or a school handbook usually sets when a sick leave certificate is needed. Fit to fly and unfit to fly needs differ by airline, so read your carrier's own rules.

Two official processes have their own route. Land Transportation Office Administrative Order AVT-2015-026 makes a medical certificate stating the applicant is physically and mentally fit to operate a motor vehicle a prior requirement for issuing or renewing a driver's licence. The same order defines an accredited physician as a practising doctor licensed to practise medicine in the Philippines, and the certificate must show the physician's Professional Regulation Commission number.

Republic Act 10022 has the Department of Health regulate clinics that conduct health examinations for overseas employment, and gives each migrant worker the freedom to choose any DOH accredited or DOH operated clinic.

For a driver's licence or an overseas job medical, use those channels.

When is an online certificate not right for you in the Philippines?

An online certificate is not right for emergencies. Call 911, the national emergency hotline in the Philippines, or go to the nearest hospital for chest pain, trouble breathing, heavy bleeding or a serious injury.

DrCertificate certificates are not for legal purposes, insurance claims or submission in India. Applicants must be 16 or older.

Visit a local clinic or hospital in person if your symptoms are getting worse, if you need a test, treatment or a prescription, or if the organisation asking for the certificate wants a physical examination. A doctor who can see and examine you is the better choice in those cases.
