Who needs a fitness certificate in Thailand?

Workers, students and travellers in Thailand are the groups who most often need a medical fitness certificate. A new employer may want proof of good health before a start date, a university may ask for one at enrolment, and a sports club may want one before a race or season.

Thailand has its own situations too.

Foreign staff applying for a work permit through the Board of Investment's One Start One Stop centre are asked for a medical certificate issued within the last 6 months, confirming no prohibited diseases under Ministerial Regulations. Foreigners living in Thailand who convert an overseas car or motorcycle licence to a Thai one must show a health certificate from a certified medical professional.

Both needs can involve tests or an in person exam. Confirm with the office what it requires before choosing an online note. A short email to the right desk can save a wasted fee.

Weather plays a part as well. The rainy season, roughly May to October, brings colds, flu and dengue, and a fitness note after a short illness can help someone return to work or training. Travellers passing through Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang airports in Bangkok may need a fit to fly note for an airline.

An online request lets you start from home, a hotel or an office in Sukhumvit, Silom or Chiang Mai. Whether the receiving organisation accepts it is that organisation's decision.

Which fitness certificate do you need in Thailand?

Four options on the form cover every certificate listed here

What should you have ready before you apply?

Have your personal details, a working email address, your reason and dates, and any requested wording ready before you start.

Details that match your ID come first. A name and ID mismatch is a common reason a doctor declines.

  • Personal details

Your full name and ID details as they appear on your documents, plus an email address you check.

  • Reason and dates

Why you need the certificate and the start and end dates it should cover.

  • Requested wording

Any form or set wording your employer, school, airline or sports club asked for.

  • Health information

Current symptoms, relevant history and any existing medical records.

What happens when the doctor reviews your request?

The doctor reads everything you submitted and decides whether a fitness certificate is appropriate. Your stated reason, the dates, your symptoms or health history, and whether your name and ID match all form part of that review.

Questions can come up.

If something needs clarifying, the doctor may ask follow-up questions in the digital chat. Quick, honest answers keep the review moving. DrCertificate itself does not diagnose, treat or prescribe. The platform connects you with independent doctors who hold MBBS, MD or MS qualifications. The doctor's judgement is what counts.

Paying the fee pays for that review and does not guarantee a certificate, which is issued only when the doctor finds it appropriate.

What if the doctor cannot issue your certificate?

If the doctor declines, you do not receive a certificate and the fee is not refunded. Doctors decline about 2 percent of requests, usually when the name and ID do not match or the symptoms and details shared are inconsistent.

The doctor may also feel your situation needs a physical exam. In that case, visit a clinic or hospital near you in Thailand.

Refunds apply only for a verified technical fault reported within 24 hours. For help, email care@drcertificate.com.

What does an online fitness certificate cost in Thailand?

The fee depends on the country you apply from, and the amount for Thailand appears at Stripe checkout before you pay. The table shows fees confirmed for other countries in the region.

The fee covers the doctor's review and, if approved, the PDF certificate by email. Payment goes through Stripe.

The fee is non refundable, including when the doctor declines, unless a verified technical fault is reported within 24 hours.

Will your employer, school or airline in Thailand accept it?

Acceptance is decided by the organisation receiving the certificate. Ask your employer, school, airline or sports body first whether it takes an online medical note.

Thai rules differ by purpose. Under the Labour Protection Act, an employer can ask for a medical certificate when sick leave lasts three working days or more, and the law refers to a first class modern medicine practitioner or an official medical facility. Employees working with risk factors face a stricter standard.

A 2020 Ministerial Regulation requires a first health exam within 30 days of hiring and at least one each year after that, by a doctor certified or trained in occupational medicine. An online fitness certificate does not replace that exam.

Airlines set their own rules for fit to fly and unfit to fly notes, and those rules can differ by carrier.

Get the wording you need in writing. DrCertificate encourages every applicant to confirm acceptance before applying.

When is an online fitness certificate not right for you in Thailand?

An online certificate is not right for emergencies, legal matters, insurance claims or anyone under 16. In a medical emergency in Thailand, call 1669 or go to the nearest hospital.

The certificate is not for legal purposes, must not be used for insurance, and is not for submission in India.

Choose an in person visit at a clinic or hospital when you need a physical exam, blood or other tests, an occupational health check, or a work permit certificate confirming no prohibited diseases. The same applies if your symptoms are severe or getting worse.
