Who needs a medical certificate in Manila?

Office workers, university students and travellers are the Manila residents and visitors who most often need a medical certificate. A worker may need one for a sick day, a student for a missed class or exam, and a traveller for a flight that has to change.

Weather plays a part. Manila's rainy season usually runs from around June to October, and the wet months bring colds, flu and stomach upsets that keep people home for a day or two.

Students in the University Belt around Sampaloc may be asked for a note after missing a test. Office staff in Ermita and Binondo face the same request from human resources. Travellers flying out of Ninoy Aquino International Airport can fall ill the night before departure and need a doctor's view on whether they are fit or unfit to fly.

A clinic queue is the last thing a person with a fever wants in that moment, and a written chat with a doctor from home is far easier.

Whether your employer, school or airline accepts an online note is up to them, so ask first.

Which medical certificate do you need in Manila?

Each certificate type maps to one of four options on the application form

The right certificate depends on why you need it and who will read it. DrCertificate's application form lists four options: Sick Leave for university or work, Unfit to Travel, Work From Home, and Medical Fitness Certificate. Each type below uses one of those four options.

General medical certificate

For a general doctor's note about your health on a given date. Choose the Sick Leave option on the form.

Medical fitness certificate

For employee fitness, student fitness, good health and fit to work notes. Choose the Medical Fitness Certificate option.

What should you have ready before you apply?

Have your personal details, a working email address and the dates you need covered ready before you open the form. Ready details make the doctor's review faster and lower the chance of a declined request.

  • Your details

Your full name as shown on your ID, plus an email address you can check right away.

  • Reason and dates

Why you need the certificate and the start and end dates it should cover.

  • Requested wording

Any form or wording your employer, school or airline asked you to include.

  • Symptoms and records

When your symptoms began, how they affect you and any records you already have.

What happens when the doctor reviews your request?

The doctor reviews everything you submitted and makes an independent decision on whether to issue a certificate. Paying for a request does not guarantee one. The doctor checks that your name and ID match, that your symptoms fit the dates you asked for, and that your situation suits an online review.

Expect questions in the chat.

If something is unclear, the doctor may send follow-up questions before deciding. Short, honest replies keep the review moving.

DrCertificate connects you with doctors and does not diagnose, treat or prescribe. A certificate is issued only if the doctor finds it appropriate based on what you shared.

What if the doctor cannot issue your certificate?

If the doctor cannot issue your certificate, the fee is not refunded and you will need to get a note elsewhere. Doctors decline about 2% of requests, usually when the name and ID do not match or the symptoms and details shared are inconsistent.

The only refund exception is a verified technical fault reported within 24 hours.

After a decline, book an in person visit at a clinic or hospital in Manila. For questions about your request, email care@drcertificate.com and include the email address you applied with.
