Who needs a fitness certificate in Myanmar?

Workers, students and travellers in Myanmar are the groups who most often need a fitness certificate or medical note. Employers ask new hires for proof they are fit to work. Schools and universities ask students for health clearance, and airlines may want a note before a flight.

Myanmar law gives fitness certificates a formal place at work.

The 2016 law amending the Factories Act 1951, Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Law No. 12 of 2016, replaced the old certificate of fitness wording with a fitness to work certificate endorsed by a registered doctor. Factory employers who follow that rule will ask staff for a doctor endorsed document. Job seekers in industrial areas around Yangon meet this requirement at the hiring stage.

Weather plays a part too. The monsoon months, roughly May to October, bring fevers, colds and stomach upsets that keep office staff in Yangon and Mandalay away from work for a day or two. Travellers passing through Yangon International Airport can also fall ill just before a flight, far from their usual doctor.

An online request lets you start from home or a hotel room, at a time that suits you. Whether the employer, school or airline accepts the note is their decision, not DrCertificate's.

Which fitness or medical certificate do you need in Myanmar?

Pick the certificate first, then the matching option on the form

The right certificate depends on why you need it. The DrCertificate form has four options, Sick Leave, Unfit to Travel, Work From Home and Medical Fitness Certificate, and every certificate below maps to one of them.

Medical fitness certificate

For employee fitness, student fitness and good health checks. Choose Medical Fitness Certificate on the form.

Sports fitness certificate

For joining a club, gym, team or race. Uses the Medical Fitness Certificate option.

Fit to fly and fit to work certificates

For an airline or employer that wants confirmation you are well enough. Both use the Medical Fitness Certificate option.

Work from home certificate

For days you can work but should stay home. Choose Medical Certificate, Work From Home.

What should you have ready before you apply?

Have your personal details, a working email address and the dates you need covered ready before you open the form. Five minutes of preparation saves back and forth with the doctor.

Mismatched names and ID details are one of the reasons doctors decline requests.

  • Personal details

Your full name and ID details as they appear on your documents, plus an email address you check.

  • Reason and dates

Why you need the certificate and the exact dates it should cover.

  • Requested wording

Any form or wording your employer, school, club or airline asked you to provide.

  • Health information

Current symptoms, existing conditions and any medical records you already hold.

What happens when the doctor reviews your request?

The doctor reads your form, checks that your details are consistent and decides whether a certificate is medically appropriate. Paying the fee buys a review, not a guaranteed certificate.

During the review the doctor looks at your stated reason, the dates requested and your symptoms or fitness information. The doctor also checks that your name and ID match.

Expect questions.

The doctor may send follow-up questions in the chat if something is unclear or missing, and quick replies keep the review moving. DrCertificate itself does not diagnose, treat or prescribe. The platform connects you with an independent doctor and handles the form and payment, while the medical decision stays with the doctor.

A certificate is issued only when the doctor finds it appropriate for your situation. If the doctor thinks you need a physical examination, you will need to see a clinic in person.

What if the doctor cannot issue your fitness certificate?

If the doctor declines, you receive no certificate and the payment is not refunded. Doctors decline about 2% of requests, usually because the name and ID do not match or the symptoms and details shared are inconsistent.

A decline is a medical judgement, not a penalty.

After a decline, visit a clinic or hospital in Myanmar for an in person check. For a verified technical fault reported within 24 hours, or any other question, email care@drcertificate.com.

What does an online fitness certificate cost in Myanmar?

How quickly can you get a fitness certificate in Myanmar?

A typical request takes about 30 minutes from payment to decision.

Missing details, a name and ID mismatch or follow up questions from the doctor can add time. Reply to chat messages quickly to avoid waiting.

Doctors review fitness cases from 9 am to 9 pm IST Monday to Saturday and from 10 am to 8 pm IST on Sunday. Myanmar time runs one hour ahead of IST, which means 10 am to 10 pm Monday to Saturday and 11 am to 9 pm on Sunday in Yangon. Requests sent outside those hours wait for the next review window.

Will your employer, school or airline in Myanmar accept an online certificate?

Only the employer, school, airline or sports body receiving the certificate can say whether an online note is accepted, so check with them first. DrCertificate encourages every applicant to confirm this before applying, because fees are non refundable.

Myanmar law sets formal fitness rules for young workers. The ILO's 2020 guide to the Factories Act says children and adolescents may work in a factory only with a certificate of fitness to work from a certifying surgeon, valid for one year. The same guide says the Shops and Establishments Law 2016 lets a child aged 14 to 16 work up to four hours a day if a responsible registered doctor provides a fitness certificate.

Statutory checks like these fall outside DrCertificate. Applicants must be 16 or older, and the certificates are not for legal purposes, so ask the employer which doctor the law requires.

Airlines set their own fit to fly and unfit to fly rules, and those rules differ from one carrier to the next.

When is an online fitness certificate not right for you in Myanmar?

An online certificate is not right for emergencies, legal matters, insurance claims or anyone under 16. In a medical emergency in Myanmar, call 192 for an ambulance or go to the nearest hospital straight away.

DrCertificate certificates are not for legal purposes, must not be used for insurance and are not for submission in India.

Book an in person visit at a local clinic or hospital if you need a physical examination, tests, treatment or a prescription. The same applies if your symptoms are severe or getting worse, or if a statutory fitness exam by a certifying surgeon is required.
