Who needs a sick leave certificate in Cambodia?
Workers, students and travellers in Cambodia are the groups who most often need a sick leave certificate. Each group has its own reason, from a missed shift to a missed exam.
Factory and office staff in Phnom Penh may need a note for their employer after a fever keeps them home. University students in the capital often need one for a missed class or test.

What should you have ready before you apply?
Having your details ready before you start the DrCertificate form avoids delays and extra questions. Gather these four things first.

What happens when the doctor reviews your request?
The doctor reads everything you submitted and decides, on medical grounds, whether a certificate is appropriate. The doctor checks that your symptoms, dates and personal details agree with each other and with the certificate you chose.
Expect questions.
The doctor may ask follow up questions in the chat to learn when symptoms started, how they affect your work or study, or why you need the dates requested. Give true and complete answers, because vague or inconsistent replies make approval harder. DrCertificate is a platform that connects you with independent doctors.
DrCertificate does not diagnose, treat or prescribe, and the chat is no substitute for care if you are seriously unwell. A certificate is issued only if the doctor finds it appropriate.
Paying for the review does not change that decision.
What if the doctor cannot issue your certificate?
If the doctor cannot issue your certificate, you are told, and the payment is not refunded. Doctors on DrCertificate decline about 2% of requests. The usual reasons are a name and ID that do not match, or symptoms and details that are inconsistent.
A decline is a medical judgement, not a penalty.

Will your employer, school or airline in Cambodia accept it?
Acceptance is decided by the employer, school, airline or sports body in Cambodia that receives your certificate, not by DrCertificate. Ask them first whether they take an online medical certificate and whether they need a set format.
Cambodian labour law does refer to illness certified by a doctor. Article 71 of the Labour Law suspends a worker's contract during an absence for illness certified by a qualified doctor, for up to six months, extendable until there is a replacement. Article 72 says suspension pauses the duty to work and the employer's duty to pay, unless other provisions require the employer to pay. Article 166 states that sick leave is not counted as paid annual leave.
Those articles do not say which kinds of certificate an employer must take. Your company handbook or HR team will.
Airlines set their own rules for fit to fly and unfit to fly documents, and those rules differ from one carrier to the next.
When is an online certificate not right for you in Cambodia?
An online sick leave certificate is not right for you in Cambodia if you face an emergency, need it for legal or insurance use, or are under 16. In an emergency, call 119 for an ambulance or go to the nearest hospital.
